From Pacifica to Menlo Park and Daly City to Redwood City, San Mateo County is one of the most desirable locations to live in the Bay Area.
San Mateo county is a diverse county which is the pulse of the Bay Area. The county is bordered on the Pacific Ocean on the west, the San Francisco Bay on the east, San Francisco to the north and Silicon Valley to the south.
There are a number of great cities in San Mateo County. On the coast is Pacifica, which is the gateway to the Coastside communities to the south of the tunnel. Pacifica features several popular beaches and some great dining destinations. Immediately south of Pacifica is the Coastside, including Half Moon Bay, and to the south of Half Moon Bay is Pescadero.
Some of the more urban communities in San Mateo county include Daly City, South San Francisco and San Bruno. These communities were built up along El Camino Real and have a blue collar feel to them. To the south, communities such as Burlingame, Millbrae, San Carlos and San Mateo all feature vibrant downtowns with some excellent restaurants.
San Mateo County features an abundance of state parks and state beaches for residents to explore. It is also headquarters to some of the world’s largest and best known companies, including Oracle, Visa, Sony, Genentech and YouTube. As recently as 2012, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, San Mateo was the top wage earning county in the nation.
San Mateo’s diverse communities have much to offer, from a rural to urban to suburban feel. They offer the feel of small towns with easy access to resources big cities are known for.
