Montara is a quiet, small, tight-knit community surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It is the first town south of the tunnel and boasts some of the most breathtaking views on the Coast.
Gray Whale Cove and Montara State Beach are two of the most stunning beaches in California. NearbyMontara Mountain is the only undisturbed coastal mountain habitat within 100 miles and boasts manytrails for hiking, including Devil’s Slide trail and a hike to the summit.
One of the more iconic features of Montara is the Point Montara Lighthouse which was built in 1881 and brought here from the East Coast. Right next door is the Hi Point Lighthouse Hostel.
Halloween is always one of the highlights of the year in Montara. Most houses in the community go all out decorating and the famous “Witch’s House” attracts trick-or-treaters from far and wide.
Many residents move to Montara, fall in love and stay for their whole lives. The community is tight knit and you can regularly see people out and about walking their dogs or taking advantage of one of trails surrounded by rustic beauty.
